When a son became “trapped here,” as Joan put it, for eight weeks at the beginning of the pandemic lockdown in March, he became an invaluable help around the Ormondroyd house, which Edward built along Curry Road and they’ve shared since 1991. Joan and Edward are 90 and 95, respectively, and although mentally astute and still somewhat agile, concluded this year that the time had come to be closer to the their children, the majority of whom live on the West Coast - two in Santa Cruz. The community stalwarts, who came to live here fortuitously, flew to Santa Cruz on Friday, where they will live a short walk from the Pacific.
